AP Gov Update for September 17-21

Monday is Constitution Day!  We will celebrate federalism that day!

Every year, there is a Constitution Day lecture held at the Mother's Day Shrine.  This year it will be held on Tuesday, September 18 at 6:30 p.m.

The featured speaker is WVU Law Professor Anne Lofaso.  I would encourage students to attend this event.  This will last for about half an hour.   Extra credit will be offered if you are in attendance.

The second half of the alphabet will be turning in Current Events on Monday.  It will be Grading Period 1, Current Events #2.

Here is the agenda for the week:

Monday:

  • Preamble
  • Current Events (second half of the alphabet)
  • Reading on Constitutional theories of Federalism
  • Read pages 83-84 for Tuesday

Tuesday:

  • Preamble
  • EQ 3-2:  What are states' obligations to each other


Wednesday:

  • Preamble
  • Walk-through of the building to discuss federalism
  • Complete simple federalism scavenger hunt
  • Read pages 84-94 for Thursday


Thursday:

  • Preamble
  • EQ Notes 3-3:  How has the shift from dual federalism to cooperative federalism change intergovernmental relations?


Friday (Two-hour early dismissal):

  • Turn in Preamble
  • Federalism Part 1 activity

     Getting appointed to one of these prestigious academies requires a nomination from a member of U.S. Congress as part of the process.  Grafton High is proud to be the school of past appointees, so please don’t ever think that this is out of reach.  If interested, open the attachment to this message and make plans to attend one of the Academy Days.  If you need more information, please see your counselor.

Last Hoorah before the AP GOV Exam!

This is the last hoorah before the AP American Government and Politics Exam.  You all have been preparing for this exam all year and I wish you the best tomorrow.  If you need any last-minute pointers, let me know and I'll give you advice. You will need to log on using your exam ticket at about 3:30 on Monday, May 11.  You will need to log into a demo exam to check and see if your device is compatible.  The exam will start at 4:00 p.m. and will ultimately be over by 4:50. I have posted a video to tell you all "Hoorah" and best wishes on the exam. I do not have any assignments for you this week.  But I hope you take the time to turn in some things and include your reply to the Flipgrid video .  I would like to see your face and hear your voice. This was supposed to be your last week as a senior in school, and I truly miss this annual ritual.  It should have been a once in a lifetime ritual for you.  Let me know if there is anything I can do...

Social Studies Fair Information

This is information about the Social Studies Fair: Wednesday, January 30 from 4:00 - 6:30. Set up starts in the Taylor County Middle School library at 3:30. Please bring your presentation board and abstract with you. Mr. Zukowski will not be at school on Tuesday, but you can message him on Tuesday if you have questions.   If you need transportation to the school, let Mr. Zukowski know. There is a snow day or Ice Pack day, further instructions will come. If you are not able to attend due to practice/game/competition or work, let Mr. Zukowski know in class on Monday.
