AP Gov Update for September 4-7

As we move into the first full month of the school year, we will be focusing on the Constitution and questions about its features.  This will tie into the aftermath of 9/11 and what actions the government can do.  Also, on September 17, we will celebrate the anniversary of the Constitution in class

But first, we have to take a look at why there is no school on Monday.  It is a national holiday known as Labor Day and it was a result of the Progressive and Labor movement of the late 1800s and early 1900s.  Here is a link from the United States Department of Labor about Labor Day.

We will start looking at the required documents that the AP organization asks us to know.  These include the Declaration of Independence, Federalist #10 and #51.  I had asked you to read five passages from the AMSCO books.  The other documents focus on relationships with the required documents.

Here is the agenda for the week:

Monday:
  • Labor Day, no school (and no Preamble)

Tuesday:
  • Turn in Current Events
  • New Preamble paper (cross out Monday)
  • There will be a PowerPoint about Federalist Papers 10 and 51.
  • Read pages 54-56 and the AMSCO pages for Wednesday.

Wednesday:

  • We will look at the differences between the Federalists and Anti-Federalists
  • We will review the accomplishments of the Constitution over the Articles of Confederation.

Thursday:

  • We are going to exclusively work out of the AMSCO book.
  • Read pages 57-63 for Friday.

Friday:

  • Turn in Preambles.
  • We will look at how the Constitution can be changed.
